Getting There & Travel Info
Most travellers reach Uzbekistan via Southeast Asia. It's the most comfortable way to break the journey and arrive ready to take things in.
A stopover in Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok works well. One flight from Australia, one onward into Tashkent. It turns a long journey into something more manageable.
Typical Routing
Australia → Kuala Lumpur → Tashkent
Australia → Bangkok → Tashkent
Flight Times
8–9 hours into Southeast Asia
7–8 hours onward to Tashkent
18–24 hours total depending on stopover
Flight Planning
Flights from Australia are readily available with advance planning, offering good availability and value through Southeast Asian hubs.
Visa
Australian passport holders can enter Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 30 days
Passport
Check early — you'll need at least six months' validity from your travel dates
Other Connection Options
Depending on your location and schedule, connections via Dubai, China, or Central Asia may also suit. Each has its own advantages:
Via Dubai
Emirates or flydubai · ~18–20 hrs total
Good availability year-round. A short layover in Dubai makes this a comfortable option, particularly from Melbourne or Sydney.
Via China
Air China or China Southern · ~20–24 hrs total
Often the most affordable option, connecting through Beijing or Guangzhou. Competitive pricing for bookings made 3–4 months in advance.
Via Central Asia
Air Astana or Uzbekistan Airways · ~22–26 hrs total
Routes through Almaty or Bishkek. A good option if you wish to extend your journey through the broader region.
